Oh Me Ly – Fountain Valley – 714-531-7173
16086 Harbor Blvd, 92708,
French/Vietnamese restaurant in a colorful setting. The restaurant looks like a Mexican cantina with its bright orange decor. A one-man band/pianist provides live evening music. Good yet pricey gourmet style food. Bear and wine served. Free soup appetizer and ice-cream dessert served with meals. There’s a jambayla or paella style fried rice with seafood that is served here. The salmon with tamarind sauce is recommended.

Xanh – Fountain Valley – 714-531-2030
16161 Brookhurst St, 92708 www.xanhbistro.com
Fancy new artsy Vietnamese restaurant located in the Albertson’s shopping center, next to the Vietnamese Performing Arts Center. Food is presented in artsy, gourmet style and pricey, but tasty. I liked the greens soup with Chicken meatballs. The 5-spice spare ribs weren’t that great. I would come again to try something different but not easy on the wallet. Good place to take Americanos.

Sakura – Huntington Beach – (714) 841-8885, 16871 Beach Blvd
Small, upscale Japanese restaurant serving Shabu Shabu, the boiled pot where you cook raw meat and vegetables at your table like a fondue pot. Run by Vietnamese owners so may not be 100% authentic Japanese.

Todai – Westminster (714)891-0081 – 2008A Westminster Mall, 92683
This is a seafood buffet that has an unlimited sushi bar and crab/shrimp/n’ various sea creatures that seafood lovers love. There’s also the typical Chinese non-seafood stuff like fried rice, orange chicken, miso soup for land animal eaters only like myself. There will be something for everyone but the biggest enjoyment will be for seafood/sushi lovers. They have an excellent dessert selection with made-to-order crepes.

Hokkaido Buffet – (949) 851-5888 – 4200 Scott Drive, Newport Beach, 92660
This is a seafood buffet that has an unlimited sushi bar and crab/shrimp/n’ various sea creatures that seafood lovers love. There’s also the typical Chinese non-seafood stuff like fried rice, orange chicken, miso soup for land animal eaters only like myself. It’s comparable to Todai or Sumo – quasi-Japanese/Chinese buffets. There will be something for everyone but the biggest enjoyment will be for seafood/sushi lovers.

Casa Inka – Fountain Valley (714) 847-7555 – 8610 Warner Ave, 92708
This is one of a few Peruvian restaurants I’ve visited in Orange County. Nice ambience but afraid it may not last since very few customers whenever I’ve been there. Wait service is slow but food is tasty if you like Peruvian food. The owner Angel is actually Cuban and stopped by our table to introduce himself, his Peruvian wife, Anna is the chef. They advertised $7 lunch specials so I tried that and was very disappointed that the portion of chicken was small like a single drumstick on a bed of cilantro rice. Guess that’s why it was only 7 bucks. Dinner was a little pricey but portions more generous.

Thanh Restaurant – Irvine - 949-559-7788 – www.thanhrestaurant.com 15315 Culver Drive #140, 92604
Very clean and nicely decorated upscale restaurant befitting of it’s Irvine location.
Com Tam (Gum Tum) – translates to broken rice. A filling meal of rice with delicious grilled meat or seafood, served with pickled vegetables, sometimes with egg-foo-young patty or a fried egg. Drizzle the fish sauce all over and you’ve got a pretty tasty rice dish.
I like the Com Ga (Gum Gaah) – Chicken Rice from the Thanh (Ton) restaurant in Irvine. They put these tasty thin onion ring-like strips over a generous portion of the salad.
