French/Vietnamese restaurant in a colorful setting. The restaurant looks like a Mexican cantina with its bright orange decor. A one-man band/pianist provides live evening music. Good yet pricey gourmet style food. Bear and wine served. Free soup appetizer and ice-cream dessert served with meals. There’s a jambayla or paella style fried rice with seafood that is served here. The salmon with tamarind sauce is recommended.

Fancy new artsy Vietnamese restaurant located in the Albertson’s shopping center, next to the Vietnamese Performing Arts Center. Food is presented in artsy, gourmet style and pricey, but tasty. I liked the greens soup with Chicken meatballs. The 5-spice spare ribs weren’t that great. I would come again to try something different but not easy on the wallet. Good place to take Americanos.

Run by Vietnamese owners so may not be 100% authentic Japanese. I stopped going here because the wait service was slow and they screwed up my order one too many times. However if you want cheap sushi, this may be the place for you.

This is one of a few Peruvian restaurants I’ve visited in Orange County. Nice ambience but afraid it may not last since very few customers whenever I’ve been there. Wait service is slow but food is tasty if you like Peruvian food. The owner Angel is actually Cuban and stopped by our table to introduce himself, his Peruvian wife, Anna is the chef. They advertised $7 lunch specials so I tried that and was very disappointed that the portion of chicken was small like a single drumstick on a bed of cilantro rice. Guess that’s why it was only 7 bucks. Dinner was a little pricey but portions more generous.

Shin Sen Gumi at Fountain Valley is divided into 2 places. The main place serves up barbecue grilled meat cooked in front of you as you order. The place next door is called Yakitori Robata Restaurant and serves up Ramen Noodle soup, Hakata Ramen and selectable toppings. Other dishes are fried rice, gyoza, spam rice ball, soboro bowl. Staffed by young, authentic Japanese who loudly greet customers as they enter and leave. Opens 11:30 – 3:00 and 6pm to 11pm.

Out of all the numerous Mexican restaurant chains in Orange County, I prefer this one for its unlimited fresh salsa bar and $1.25 Taco Tuesday evenings.

Thai Food – Pad see ew, pad thai, beef salad are some of my favorite Thai dishes. Most Thai places have affordable lunch time specials that include a crispy appetizer, soup, and salad. Curry with coconut milk is common to most Thai dishes. The soups are a good variety ranging from hot and sour soup, coconut milk soup, noodle and tofu soup, to a whole meal of hot pot Thai soup.
